Ghent University

Ghent University (UGent), a public University located in the city of Ghent, Belgium, was established in 1817 by the King William I of the Netherlands. French has been the main language of all Universities in Belgium until the beginning of the 20th century. In 1930, Ghent University became the first Dutch-speaking in the country. Ghent University is known to be a pluralist and independent university, not connected to any ideology, and it is one of the biggest universities in the country counting over 43000 students and almost 10000 staff members. In addition to support through European Projects, the University is supported by special research fund of the University and Flemish Research Council. Ghent University has many libraries, the University Hospital and it consists of 11 Faculties and over 130 departments. The research group NanoBioTechnology (NBT), led by Professor Skirtach, is a part of Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Bioscience Engineering. The group originates from the Department of Interfaces, Max- Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Potsdam, Germany, Previously, where Prof. Skirtach has been a group leader.

Andree Skirtach

Andre Skirtach has obtained BSc, MSc from Moscow State University of Lomonosow, Moscow, Russia and PhD from McGill University, Montréal, Canada. After completing his doctorate, Dr. Skirtach has joined National Research Council of Canada/Conseil National de Recherches Canada in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. In 2011, he had become professor at the Department of Molecular Biotechnology, Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, University of Ghent, Ghent, Belgium.
