Academisch Ziekenhuis Groningen

The Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Groningen is the second oldest medical faculty in The Netherlands and was established in 1614. The University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) was established in 2005 as a joint activity of the University of Groningen and the Academic Hospital Groningen (AZG) and is one of the largest hospitals in the Netherlands. It is also the largest employer in Northern Netherlands with over 10,000 employees. Its major tasks involve medical scientific education and carrying out medical scientific research. Characteristic for the research at the UMCG is the combination of fundamental research and patient-oriented (clinical) research. The UMCG provides a highly stimulating internationally orientated research environment, in which scientists from various pre-clinical disciplines (medical biologists, pharmacists, chemists, and physicists) closely collaborate with clinical academic staff from a range of specialties. The UMCG will participate in I-DireCT with all its appropriate expertise, laboratories and facilities.
